AN AMERICAN CLASSIC

Twenty three year old Laura Wingfield is a shy wallflower, who lives in a life of her imagination. Her doting mother, Amanda, fears for her daughter’s future and is consumed with finding her a husband. Laura’s brother, Tom, is trapped at home, working in a factory job he hates and longing to join the Merchant Marines. Memories of their lost father loom as the future moves ever closer, when hope arrives in the person of a handsome gentleman caller. The Glass Menagerie is considered by many critics to be Tennessee Williams’ finest drama. Part fiction, part autobiography, The Glass Menagerie follows the story of a family displaced from their gentile agrarian past and facing the challenges of a 20th Century industrial world. It is a timeless tale about the stages in life where one is initiated into the greater reality of the world, the enduring power of familial love, and the sacrifices it takes for children to move on.

In memory, everything seems to happen to music.
