History

Mendocino Theatre Company is a vital component of both our coastal artistic community and the local economy. We are the embodiment of a uniquely talented group of actors, directors, designers and theatre technicians, all dedicated to creating theatrical magic within the intimate setting of our artistic home, the newly renovated 60-seat Helen Schoeni Theatre.

The historic black-box stage has been the site of 282 productions since the company’s founding in 1976. The comfortable lobby boasts a full bar offering cocktails, beer, wine and a variety of locally-made treats.

The theatre sits at the northeast quadrant of the Mendocino Art Center campus. The Art Center has a number of artist galleries that make for interesting viewing while theatre patrons stroll the beautifully gardened property.

In addition to theatrical productions, MTC hosts a regular concert series in the Helen Schoeni Theatre featuring local and regional musicians and performers. The company also produces a number of radio plays each season, including  ONE-MINUTE RADIO THEATRE, which are broadcast locally on KZYX and KNYO radio stations.

We acknowledge that the land where we create theatre is the traditional territory of the northern Pomo and coast Yuki people.
