Comic Satire—What could possibly go wrong when a group of well-meaning but culturally insensitive white elementary school teachers attempt to create a politically correct elementary school play about the first Thanksgiving while struggling with their own biases and the lack of Native representation? Well, apparently, EVERYTHING.

Meet Logan (Janice Culliford), a drama teacher hoping to devise the best and most culturally sensitive elementary school Thanksgiving pageant ever, one that will honor Native American Heritage Month. She is assisted by her boyfriend, Jaxton (Raven Deerwater), an actor, yoga dude and vegan ally and Caden (Brady Voss), the overly earnest third-grade teacher and frustrated playwright who insists they open with a scene set 4,000 years ago.

Finally, onto the scene comes a “genuine Los Angeles actor named Alicia (Lila Sisk-Popow) who is hired to “lift up” the Native American point of view. Only she turns out to be more of a multipurpose “super-flexible” ethnic type than an actual indigenous person.

The Thanksgiving Play is a comic satire written by Larissa FastHorse, a member of the Sicangu Lakota nation of South Dakota and the first female Native American playwright to have a play on Broadway.

Very, very funny... this clever satire is something for which to be truly thankful.
