We seek a passionate Theatre Technical Director (TD) to lead our volunteer technical team and ensure the seamless execution of our productions. We produce five fully staged shows each season which runs from February and December in the 60-seat Helen Schoeni Theatre on the Mendocino Arts Center Campus

Position Overview:
The Technical Director will oversee all technical aspects for productions at MTC. This TD works with all production departments. It includes, but is not necessarily limited to, executing light hang & focus, configuring audio needs, participating in set construction, keeping equipment and production spaces well maintained, training volunteers to work backstage or in the booth, and other related tasks supporting the shows. The TD will collaborate with designers, directors, and other staff members to create exceptional theatrical experiences. The successful TD will relish and thrive on good communication and collaboration.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Management: Supervise all aspects of technical production, including sound, lighting, and set construction.
Sound and Light Board Operations: Proficiently operate and maintain sound and light boards, ensuring high-quality audio and lighting setups for each performance.
Electrics Management: Supervise and participate, as needed, in the installation of lighting designs including hang, focus, circuiting, rigging, and system setups,.
Carpentry: Collaborate with designers and staff in the construction and installation of scenery.
Budgetary: Keep good records and tracking of production expenses and work with Producing Director and Designers to help keep shows on budget.
Team Leadership and Volunteer Recruitment: Train and supervise staff and volunteers, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and best practices.
Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance and repairs of technical equipment, ensuring everything is in top working order.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Theatre, Technical Theatre, or a related field.
Knowledgeable in standard current theatrical practices and techniques.
Strong skills in sound and light board operations.
Specific knowledge of electrics and safety standards related to theatrical production.
Proficient in carpentry with some experience in set construction and design.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends.
Ability to work on ladders, lift heavy scenery, work in dark and sometimes uneven spaces.
Valid drivers license
